Immersion - dance

lately for immersion I have been doing dance and drama. For the first 10-20 minutes of our session we had to write what we thought drama and dance is I thought that dance was a way of showing your feelings. Once we jotted down our ideas we walked down to the gym to learn more about dance and drama Sarah showed us a few videos of different types of dances like ballet hip hop and other dances. After that we got given poems about friendship and we had to bring the poem to life. I found it hard because I don't really like standing up in front of a large crowd and performing but I think I did well because I didn't hold back. We also did freeze frames on friendship we got into groups of 3 or 4 our group idea was that we were all running and I tripped over and the others laughed at me the purpose of this immersion was to be confident and to learn more about dance incase you wanted to do it for your project. In this immersion I learned lots about dance and the meaning behind dance and drama. I learned that dance can be a way to express your feelings and stand up for what you believe. One of the things I enjoyed was making up freeze frames because I was confident and I got into it and particapated.

Immersion- design

As the days pass we move on to our next session for immersion our topic was designing a new playground for our school. For our first session we walked down to the park and sketched and listed ideas of what we would want to have for our school one of my ideas was to have swings. For our next session we surveyed learning common 1 and 2 to get ideas of what they would like to have in a playground we used a tally chart to collect all the data. When we drew out the tally chart we turned the information into a bar graph to show what is popular and what isn't popular. Once we knew what things people liked we designed our dream playground and got constructive feedback to others. One of the things I really enjoyed was designing our dream playground I also really enjoyed surveying the younger kids. My challenge was coming up with ideas for my dream playground but once I got ideas I found it easier.

Google submit- GEG

Last Friday (11.8.17) our whole common (lc7) went to Ormiston junior college and primary school to participate in a google submit. A google submit is when lots of schools get a chance to present/show what they have been learning over the few weeks to other schools or to participate in those sessions. As soon as we got there we got given a map of the whole so we knew where everything was. We then went to our first session.

For my first session I went to game creation. As everyone started to come in they showed us a video on how they created the game. They showed us the game they created They talked us through how they did it and what materials/websites they used to create the game. A few of us got to have a go playing the game they also showed us. From that session I learned that anything is possible if you give it a go.

For my second session I went to complex character design. They showed us their slide show that they had been working on and gave us a piece of paper and a pencil and talked to us about how you can create your own character. They gave us ideas such as their personality and what they look like your character could be anything like a (animal, alien or a person).   I created my own character my character's personality was sporty, kind, brave, nice and other things. Once we listed the character's personality we started to draw our person.

For my last session I went to do green screen. When we got to our session they showed a video of people using green screen I found out that you can use different backgrounds when you use green screen. Once the video we got into large groups we got given an ipad so we can start planning out ideas of what theme to use. We decided to do ours on a roller coaster after filming our green screen video we tried out all the other types of themes.

When we all finished our last session we down to the auditorium for prize giving some prize's were for some people that presented and some for people that participated in the google submit. There were so many good prizes such as a chrome book, laptop case, maps and other great prizes. There were a few people from our school they got prizes.

Projects - task 4

For my project (science badge - zoology) my 4th task was to write a report explaining why some animals are active at night instead of during the day. For that task I researched what animals are active at night and why they are active at night. I noted some facts and ideas I found out While researching. I found out that some desert animals would rather sleep during the day because it is too hot to hunt for food. I also found out what a nocturnal animal is. A  nocturnal animal is when some animals sleep during the ay instead of at night. I wrote the information I found out onto a google doc and rephrased it into my own words so I could understand the text better. I added pictures of nocturnal animals and added colour to make it more interesting to look at. One of my challenges that I faced during this task is that some  of the information didn't make sense and some of it wasn't true. But I looked at other websites and got the right information I needed to complete my task.

Project- Presentation

This week everyone is getting ready to present their projects for next week. We had a range of options of how we could present you could either present it on a google doc, google slides or a poster. I choose to present mine on a poster because I wanted to try something different because I usually do an online presentation. Since I was presenting it on a poster I had to write my project description and I also had to explain what a science badge is. I also had to explain the process I went through to do each individual task that I have been learning in the past weeks. Once I finished explaining I wrote it down on my poster and the went over it with vivid so it would stand out more. I then added a splash of colour and a few pictures to make it more affective and interesting to look at when people come to see it. To make it stronger I added another layer of brown paper and so it would stand up when I  present it to people. I also practiced presenting it to a small group and got constructive feedback.

Projects - task 3

For my project one of my tasks is to read about five different types of fish, make notes or drawings and then give a two minute talk to a group. For that task I researched new Zealand fish I searched through all the fish and picked out five fish I choose salmon, rainbow trout, shark, eels and snapper. I then research about each fish and made notes of what they eat, where they live and do they have any predators. Then I gave a two minute talk to a group talking about the fish I was researching. Then I wrote the information onto a google doc. But it was a bit boring so I converted it onto a google slide and added pictures of the fish to make it more interesting to read then I printed it out and made it into a little booklet for people to look at it when I present it.

Immersion - elephants toothpaste

On Wednesday for immersion we got into pairs and grabbed a water bottle and walked down to the kitchen to make elephants toothpaste. We got  all the ingredients and started following the recipe. First we had to pour the hydrogen peroxide into the bottle. Then we added 8 drops of food colouring  I then added a teaspoon of liquid dish soap into the bottle. Then I shook the bottle around a little bit to mix it. Then we got a another small cup, and combined the warm water and the yeast together and we mixed it for about 25-30 seconds. Then we poured the yeast mixture into the bottle. It worked it was foaming right out of the bottle. I think that it was a chemical reaction because the carbon peroxide and yeast mixed with it and then it started to foam.
