Immersion - dance
lately for immersion I have been doing dance and drama. For the first 10-20 minutes of our session we had to write what we thought drama and dance is I thought that dance was a way of showing your feelings. Once we jotted down our ideas we walked down to the gym to learn more about dance and drama Sarah showed us a few videos of different types of dances like ballet hip hop and other dances. After that we got given poems about friendship and we had to bring the poem to life. I found it hard because I don't really like standing up in front of a large crowd and performing but I think I did well because I didn't hold back. We also did freeze frames on friendship we got into groups of 3 or 4 our group idea was that we were all running and I tripped over and the others laughed at me the purpose of this immersion was to be confident and to learn more about dance incase you wanted to do it for your project. In this immersion I learned lots about dance and the meaning behind dance and drama. I learned that dance can be a way to express your feelings and stand up for what you believe. One of the things I enjoyed was making up freeze frames because I was confident and I got into it and particapated.
Immersion- design
As the days pass we move on to our next session for immersion our topic was designing a new playground for our school. For our first session we walked down to the park and sketched and listed ideas of what we would want to have for our school one of my ideas was to have swings. For our next session we surveyed learning common 1 and 2 to get ideas of what they would like to have in a playground we used a tally chart to collect all the data. When we drew out the tally chart we turned the information into a bar graph to show what is popular and what isn't popular. Once we knew what things people liked we designed our dream playground and got constructive feedback to others. One of the things I really enjoyed was designing our dream playground I also really enjoyed surveying the younger kids. My challenge was coming up with ideas for my dream playground but once I got ideas I found it easier.

Google submit- GEG
Last Friday (11.8.17) our whole common (lc7) went to Ormiston junior college and primary school to participate in a google submit. A google submit is when lots of schools get a chance to present/show what they have been learning over the few weeks to other schools or to participate in those sessions. As soon as we got there we got given a map of the whole so we knew where everything was. We then went to our first session.
For my first session I went to game creation. As everyone started to come in they showed us a video on how they created the game. They showed us the game they created They talked us through how they did it and what materials/websites they used to create the game. A few of us got to have a go playing the game they also showed us. From that session I learned that anything is possible if you give it a go.
For my second session I went to complex character design. They showed us their slide show that they had been working on and gave us a piece of paper and a pencil and talked to us about how you can create your own character. They gave us ideas such as their personality and what they look like your character could be anything like a (animal, alien or a person). I created my own character my character's personality was sporty, kind, brave, nice and other things. Once we listed the character's personality we started to draw our person.
For my last session I went to do green screen. When we got to our session they showed a video of people using green screen I found out that you can use different backgrounds when you use green screen. Once the video we got into large groups we got given anipad so we can start planning out ideas of what theme to use. We decided to do ours on a roller coaster after filming our green screen video we tried out all the other types of themes.
When we all finished our last session we down to the auditorium for prize giving some prize's were for some people that presented and some for people that participated in the google submit. There were so many good prizes such as a chromebook , laptop case, maps and other great prizes. There were a few people from our school they got prizes.

Projects - task 4
For my project (science badge - zoology) my 4th task was to write a report explaining why some animals are active at night instead of during the day. For that task I researched what animals are active at night and why they are active at night. I noted some facts and ideas I found out While researching. I found out that some desert animals would rather sleep during the day because it is too hot to hunt for food. I also found out what a nocturnal animal is. A nocturnal animal is when some animals sleep during the ay instead of at night. I wrote the information I found out onto a google doc and rephrased it into my own words so I could understand the text better. I added pictures of nocturnal animals and added colour to make it more interesting to look at. One of my challenges that I faced during this task is that some of the information didn't make sense and some of it wasn't true. But I looked at other websites and got the right information I needed to complete my task.

Project- Presentation
This week everyone is getting ready to present their projects for next week. We had a range of options of how we could present you could either present it on a google doc, google slides or a poster. I choose to present mine on a poster because I wanted to try something different because I usually do an online presentation. Since I was presenting it on a poster I had to write my project description and I also had to explain what a science badge is. I also had to explain the process I went through to do each individual task that I have been learning in the past weeks. Once I finished explaining I wrote it down on my poster and the went over it with vivid so it would stand out more. I then added a splash of
Projects - task 3
For my project one of my tasks is to read about five different types of fish, make notes or drawings and then give a two minute talk to a group. For that task I researched new Zealand fish I searched through all the fish and picked out five fish I choose salmon, rainbow trout, shark, eels and snapper. I then research about each fish and made notes of what they eat, where they live and do they have any predators. Then I gave a two minute talk to a group talking about the fish I was researching. Then I wrote the information onto a google doc. But it was a bit boring so I converted it onto a google slide and added pictures of the fish to make it more interesting to read then I printed it out and made it into a little booklet for people to look at it when I present it.
Immersion - elephants toothpaste
On Wednesday for immersion we got into pairs and grabbed a water bottle and walked down to the kitchen to make elephants toothpaste. We got all the ingredients and started following the recipe. First we had to pour the hydrogen peroxide into the bottle. Then we added 8 drops of food colouring I then added a teaspoon of liquid dish soap into the bottle. Then I shook the bottle around a little bit to mix it. Then we got a another small cup, and combined the warm water and the yeast together and we mixed it for about 25-30 seconds. Then we poured the yeast mixture into the bottle. It worked it was foaming right out of the bottle. I think that it was a chemical reaction because the carbon peroxide and yeast mixed with it and then it started to foam.
Projects - task 2
For my second task I had to find out a life cycle of a local fish and display the information digitally or as a poster this task will give me two stars. For this task I had to research New Zealand fish. I looked at all the different types of fish I choose to find out the life cycle of an eel. I researched about the eel and found out the life cycle. I then decided that I was going to display the information as a poster. I wrote the information onto the poster and then went to showed
Project - task 1
One of my tasks for my project was to write an illustrated article about three extinct animals and explain why they are extinct. For this task I had to research extinct animals and picked out three animals I was going to write about. I choose the Javan tiger, The great auk and the dodo. I then researched why they were extinct and when they were extinct. I found it difficult because there wasn't much information. But I when I read different websites I found the right information. When I found the right information I wrote it in my own words and added pictures in to make it more interesting.
Projects - getting started
On Monday the 24th of July we all gathered around and talked about the projects we were going to do. We had a range of options you could either learn it, prove it or teach it. In those areas were options of what you could do. For an example if you wanted to do a prove it you could do a science badge or a science fair project. I decided to do a science badge on zoology. A science badge is when you choose your badge that you are going to work on for your project whether it is zoology or marine biology in those badges are activities. Each activity is worth one, two or three stars. Once you have completed a activity you have to get it signed off with your learning adviser. You have to get at least 20 stars to earn you badge . When the science badges arrived with all the activities. I had to choose activities that will earn me 20 stars. Once I knew what activities i was doing I listed them onto a google doc.

Projects - fitness
Last term we got into groups for projects. Our main two focuses were in fair trade and fitness my groups idea was to stop laziness from happening all the time. We brain stormed ideas and created a how might we... Our how might we was how might we develop a plan for HPPS in order to become active and fit. Once we knew what we were doing. we created a google slide and researched about what types of fitness you could be doing. We also made fitness cards for people that want to use it. during projects I learned that it is important to exercise because if you don't exercise it could lead to a sickness. We also recorded our heart rates before and after. I found it hard to test the fitness cards because it was very tiring and hard because some of them were lower than the before time. Our celebrations were that we finished the project in time and we got things done.

stain removal- immersion
Today for immersion we were trying to use different substance like (lemons, vinegar and different types of detergents.) To remove grass stains, mud stains, and food colouring stains. We got into groups of four and decided on what stain we are going to have. And what things we are going to use to clean it with. We chose to use food colouring for the stain and lemons, detergent and vinegar to remove the stains. Before we tested them out we all wrote a hypothesis, my hypothesis is that vinegar will work the best. Then we tested them out. We cut out three small pieces of fabric. And squeezed four drops of food colouring on the piece of fabric. And smeared the detergent on the fabric and ran it under the tap. and it ended up working. There were only a few small stains that you could hardly see. Then we tested the vinegar and it worked again. There were only a few stains. Then we tested out the lemon and it was the same but a few more stains. Still appeared on the piece of fabric. My hypothesis was wrong turns out detergent works the best and vinegar was the second best.
